How often does your morning feel draining? Does it make you feel disconnected for the rest of the day? I encourage you to add a morning ritual to start your day. Connecting with yourself in the morning can help to make the rest of your day flow like water.
I know what you’re thinking…how am I supposed to fit in more things to do in the morning when I’m already on a time crunch? So here are 5 ways to awaken and energize your day that take less than 10 minutes!
BONUS TIP: Do not use your phone as an alarm clock. Take away the temptation to waste time on your phone by using an actual clock with an alarm to wake you up.
Practice mindfulness (5 mins)
This doesn’t have to be anything complex. Simply sit in a comfortable position (on your bed, chair or the floor), close your eyes and check in with your body. Start at your head and work your way down to your toes. How does that area of my body feel? What areas of my body are touching the floor/bed/chair? Am I feeling tightness or softness anywhere? What do I smell right now? What do I hear right now?
Intentional breath work (2 mins)
Breath in through the nose for 5 seconds, and breath out through the mouth for 10 seconds. Do that 8 times.
Brain dump (10 mins)
Keep a journal near your bed. When you wake up in the morning, spend 5-10 minutes dumping all of your thoughts on paper. They don’t have to make sense, they don’t need to be organized. Transmit your thoughts to paper. You’ll be surprised how lighter you feel afterwards.
Practice gratitude (5-10 mins)
Whether you write down your gratitude or say it aloud to yourself, fire off a list of things you are grateful for.
Dance to your favorite hype song (3-5 mins)
Dance is a relative word—in other words, move your body around the room for the duration of the song. (Note if using your phone to play music, do not be tempted to go down that social media black hole!)
