Spinster Spotlight: Jessica G

Studio Spinsters, Studio Spin

Name & age:
Jessica, 28 years old

Where are you from?
Quarryville, PA

What is your day job?
I work in accounting for a local exteriors/construction company.

What classes are you currently taking at Studio Spin and when did you start?
I’m currently mostly taking Pole Level 2 classes, and Lyra 1. I started off strictly doing lyra around Thanksgiving of 2019 and pole the following January.

What do you like about your classes? Have they made you feel stronger, confident or daring?
I like that the classes challenge me, and it’s a more rewarding workout than just lifting weights. I can see and feel my progress when I’m finally able to nail moves I’ve been learning. I definitely feel stronger and more daring – especially when I’m upside down feet from the ground!

What is your current favorite move/trick?
For pole my current favorite is the Cross Knee Bridge – it’s terrifying but looks so cool! I also love doing forward rolls on lyra.

What is your current nemesis trick?
My nemesis on lyra has been the Back Star for the longest time. I’m hoping one day I’ll finally be able to nail that one smoothly.

What is your favorite kind of music to dance to?
My favorite kind of music to dance to is probably some sort of dark, moody rock. Think Nine Inch Nails, Puscifer, Manson, etc.

Do you have a guilty pleasure?
My guilty pleasure would probably be the trash tv on TLC. I love me some 90 Day Fiancé drama…and peanut M&Ms.

Are there any books and/or movies you recommend?
If you like some witty, silly humor, I would recommend Good Omens! Both the book and adapted series are delightful.

Who are your favorite peeps that you follow on social media?
Leah Orleans (@acrobatrix) is a contortionist/acrobat, and is so incredibly talented. And just about any astrology meme page!

What is the coolest thing you have done in your life?
The coolest thing I’ve probably done is start taking pole and aerials classes! It’s definitely the most adventurous thing, at least. Up next is learning how to ride a motorcycle!

Favorite food?
Sushi or Chinese

Is there any place in Lancaster that you recommend going to?
I personally don’t venture into the city for much other than the studio but Rachel’s Creperie is a cute little spot for brunch!

Do you have any advice for newbies just starting out?
Be patient and kind with yourself. I had little to no strength when I began training, and am naturally very hard on myself. It may feel like you’ll never get stronger in the moment, but you will! Just take a breath or a break and keep trying!
